How We Walk Together
At The Hula Journey, the way we treat one another matters just as much as the hula we learn.
Our hālau is a place of learning, discipline, laughter, humility, respect and aloha. Every haumāna helps shape the spirit of the space, and we all share responsibility for
protecting it.
How We Walk Together in the Hālau
We Show Respect
We respect our kumu, alakaʻi, fellow haumāna, visitors, venues and the traditions entrusted to us.
Respect is shown not only in words, but through our actions: arriving prepared, listening when others are speaking, following instructions and treating everyone
with dignity.
We leave gossip outside
Concerns about another person should not become group discussion, side conversations or rumours.
If something genuinely needs to be addressed, speak directly and respectfully with the appropriate person or bring the matter privately to your alaka’i or Kumu.
We do not build connection by tearing someone else down.
Be mindful of the energy you bring
Your words, tone, attitude and body language affect the whole hālau. Come ready to learn, contribute positively and take responsibility for how you show up.
